Nina Avery was named for the matriarch of the McIlhenny family of Avery Island, La where the famous "Tabasco" sauce is made.

GROWER NOTES:

This bloom is very unusual in that the coral is streaked from edge of petal back toward the center. It grabs one's attention.



PEGGY'S BLUSH

White with peach blush. Medium, formal double. Mid to late season.












PINK PERFECTION

Shell pink. Small formal double. Vigorous upright growth. Early to late season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

Every camellia garden must include Pink Perfection. First introduced in 1875 it is still one of the most popular varieties.








PIRATE’S GOLD VARIEGATED

Dark red and white. Large semi-double to loose peony form. Average spreading growth. Mid to late season bloom.



PRINCE EUGENE NAPOLEON

Cherry red. Medium, formal double with many small rounded petals which are progressively smaller toward the center. Mid season. Very compact, upright growth.

GROWER NOTES:

Very old variety (1859). Great for background screening plant with color (red) in mid season.






PROFESSOR CHARLES S. SARGENT

Dark red. Medium full peony form. Vigorous compact upright growth. Mid season bloom

GROWER NOTES:

To me Prof. Sargent is not an outstanding bloom, nice but not outstanding. But it is a tough, hardy plant that will stand up to most winters with little or no damage. A great plant for Atlanta, Birmingham, and other areas where you can get damage from cold.



RACHEL TARPY

White shading to blush pink with occasional red lines or dashes. Medium to large anemone form, wavy, ruffled outer petals. Early to mid season bloom.

At the annual ACS winter meeting, a special award is given for the best Rachel Tarpy.

Light rose pink with wide white petal edges and streaks of raspberry on each petal. Medium, semi double.

Rose pink. Very large semi-double to anemone form with heavy outer petals and solid circle of stamens. Vigorous upright growth. Early to mid season bloom.






REBEL YELL

White striped, speckled and moired red. Large semi double to peony form with twisted, curled, and crepe petals. Average, upright growth. Mid season.

A great introduction in 1987 from Nuccio's Nursery in California.  Royal velvet performs well in the South and the bloom is just as described. Fast, strong grower too!

SAWADA’S DREAM

White with one third outer petals shaded delicate flesh pink. Medium formal double. Average growth. Early to mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

First introduced in 1958 by the Sawada family of Overlook Nursery. Mr Sawada considered it to be his crowning achievement in hybridizing camellias. I concur-it is certainly one of my favorites.

A terrific formal white. The plant is fast growing & trouble free. A regular winner at shows.

A great show bloom. Our stock comes from the collection of Frank & Margaret Jamieson who were consistent winners with their blooms. A strong grower introduced in 1978 by Nuccio's Nursery.

Steve Blount, a 1974 introduction by Dr Walter Homeyer was used by Dr Homeyer as the japonica parent of the highly successful reticulata 'Frank Houser'. You can see the resemblence.

Very early bloomer, deep red anemone ball. Does well in shows. Plant growth is slow, maybe because it sets so many flower buds.

WOW! Just look at the heavily moried variegation in this dark red bloom. We can't grow enough to meet demand.

Flourescent pink. Medium to large, loose peony form with fluffy, outer petals. Early to mid season.

Light orchid pink to deeper pink at edge with white blotches. large to very large. loose peony to anemone form. Vigorous growth. Mid season bloom.

TOMORROW’S DAWN BESSIE

VILLE DE NANTES

GROWER NOTES:

A must have for any serious camellia collection. We are evaluating a number of selections for their bloom & ability to grow on their own roots. Slow grower and limited quantities makes this plant more costly than regular japonicas.

Deep fiery red, blotched white. Large to very large, semi double to peony form with irregular petals to formal double. Early to mid season bloom.

This is a great bloom! The variegation will change considerably from heavy to light, all on the same plant.

GROWER NOTES:

This simple but beautiful bloom was introduced from Japan in 1895. In 2013, it won "Best White' in the Tallahassee Camellia Show.
