FASHIONATA

Apricot pink Large semi double with curled and crepe outer petals and occasional cluster of petaloids. Vigorous upright growth. Mid season bloom

FERRIS WHEEL

White with multiple red and pink streaks with prominate yellow stamens. Large to very large semidouble to loose peony form; occasionally will sport. Average compact growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

This large bloom is a real show stopper. Vigorous grower too. I won Best in Show with this bloom at the Tallahassee show in 2022.

FIFTH AVENUE

White. Medium to large full peony form. Average compact growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

Fifth Avenue is a great solid white, full peony bloom. The plant has dark green foliage which helps the bloom to really stand out.

FIRCONE VARIEGATED

Blood red and white.  Miniature semi-double bloom stacked like the cone of a fir tree. Slow bushy growth on its own roots, more vigorous on strong undergrowth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

This interesting miniature is named fircone because a good bloom will be "stacked" to resemble its namesake. Show judges just can't resist an outstanding bloom of Fircone and it often wins out in the miniature category. All the blooms don't always stack and variegation may be inconsistent but when its right it wins! Because ‘Fircone’ grows slowly on its own roots, we only grow a few. I suggest grafting one onto a hardy understock

FUNNY FACE BETTY

Pale pink that turns darker pink and then pale pink again. Medium to large semidouble to loose peony form. Average compact growth. Mid season bloom.

GEE HOMEYER

Glowing pink veined darker red. Med formal double. Vigorous dense upright growth. Mid season bloom.

GEORGIA FIRE

Dark red with yellow anthers and filaments. Medium formal double to rose form double. Vigorous upright growth. Mid to late season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

This bloom on a mature plant sometimes appears almost black red. Named by the originator, Hulyn Smith, for the fires that smoldered for weeks in the Okefenokee Swamp.

Red with a large amount of white. Large to very large semi-double to tight peony form. Vigorous dense upright growth. Early to late bloom.

White and blush white. Large rose form double with twisted and curled petals. Average growth. Early to mid season bloom.

Ghentry J responds well to gibb, blooms sometimes expanding to 7 to 8 inches

Oriental red. Medium semi-double to loose peony form. Vigorous upright growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

Gov Mouton is listed in the camellia nomenclature book as 'Aunt Jetty" but at least in Georgia, it is known as Governor Mouton. The originator is lost in antiquity as it was first described in 1811.

GRAPE SODA

Lavender red, small to medium single. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

Grape Soda is one of several red camellias that trend toward lavender when planted in acidic soil. Like hydrangeas, to increase the blue or lavender coloration, treat the soil with aluminum sulfate following manufacture's directions.

If you are looking for a camellia japonica to use as a screen, ‘Greensboro Red’ is one that will work well, as it forms a dense, deep green mass with the bonus of bright red blooms.

GROWER NOTES:

This early bloomer is one of my favorites, however the plant itself is a slow grower. The blooms are formal early with later blooms showing a feathery look toward the center.

KAY BERRIDGE

Mingled, splotched and striped red and white. Small, formal double. Average, upright growth. Mid season. Recipient of the 2009 'Kathryn and Les Marbury' award for outstanding small camellia.

KICK OFF

Pale pink marked deep pink. Large to very large loose peony form. Vigorous compact upright growth. Early to mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

A little bit darker pink and a larger bloom than Carter's Sunburst. It is an early bloomer and the plant is a vigorous grower. Introduced by Nuccio's Nursery in 1962.

Deep red blotched white. Small formal double. Vigorous bushy growth. Early bloom.

This small variegated red & white bloom may be the first japonica you will see bloom in the early season. Always a favorite & frequent winner at early shows.
