Another very good introduction by Hulyn Smith. ‘Cile Mitchell’ is a large bloom that will catch your eye.

CINNAMON CINDY

Rose pink with white center petaloids. Miniature peony form. Early to mid season bloom. Fragrant with a faint cinnamon fragrance

CINNAMON SCENTSATION

Rose pink to white sport of 'Cinnamon Cindy'. Small single. Average upright growth. Mid-late season. Highly fragrant.

Sport of Cinnamon Cindy, with a more intense fragrance.

DANCING BLAZE

Dark red. Medium semidouble. Slow spreading growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

This is a ‘Black Magic’ seedling from New Zealand. Very eye-catching with its glossy red petals. Plant is somewhat slow growing.

DEBBIE VARIEGATED

Clear spinel pink variegated white. Medium peony form.

DELORES EDWARDS

Light orchid pink. Large semi-double to anemone form to peony form. Average upright growth. Early to mid season bloom. Introduced by hybridizer and past ACS president Hulyn Smith.

GROWER NOTES:

Early bloomer responds to gibb treatment. Nice large bloom.

DRAGON FIREBALL

Red with white margins. Small to medium anemone form. Vigorous upright growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

If ‘Dragon Fireball’ always bloomed like the picture, it would be a great cultivar. However, it sports different looking blooms, some anemone form, but others semi-double and resembling ‘Tama Glitters’ or other ‘Tama’ cultivars.

DREAM BOAT

Bright pink with lavender cast. Large formal double with incurved petals. Average open upright growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

This picture doesn't do justice to this bloom. But as the name implies, it is a fantastic bloom. Leaves are boat shaped and fairly large.

ELSIE JURY

Clear pink with shaded orchid undertone. Large, full peony form. Average, open, spreading growth. Mid-late season.

GROWER NOTES:

Elsie Jury is a beautiful pink peony bloom and is one of my favorites. Good show bloom.

FALLEN ANGEL

Lavender wuth yellow pigments. Medium semidouble to anemone to peony form. Average spreading upright growth. Early to mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

This is the first known successful cross between a japonica and the specie ‘Granthamiana’ made by Walter Homeyer in 1974. I like it. It is different and it gets a lot of attention. Plant grows okay but maybe a little slow.

FIRST BLUSH

Bright red. Small bell shaped semidouble. Vigorous upright compact growth. Early to mid season bloom.

HALLSTONE SPICY

Very upright growing with a bright pink peony form flower. As name implies the fragrance is spicy. Small to medium bloom. Mid to late season bloom.

HIGH FRAGRANCE

Pale ivory pink with deeper pink shading at edge. Medium peony form. Vigorous open growth. Fragrant. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

As the name implies, it is highly fragrant. Right now I would say it is the most fragrant of the hybrids we grow. Bloom is very nice too.

JOE NUCCIO VARIEGATED

Orchid pink with incurved tips of petals toned deeper pink variegated white. Medium formal double. Average dense upright growth. Early to late season bloom.

JULIA

Lavender pink and white. Medium to large rose form double to formal double. Average upright growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

A very nice variegated lavender pink & white bloom sometimes confused with Julie which is not variegated. The plant is vigorous and often leggy in its growth habit.

JULIE VARIEGATED

Salmon pink to peach pink variegated white. Medium to large peony form to rose form double. Average dense upright growth. Mid season bloom.

JURY'S YELLOW

White with cream yellow petaloids. Medium, anemone form. Average, compact, upright growth. Early-late season.

GROWER NOTES:

This name is a little misleading. It is not yellow. It's a white anemone with the center petaloids having a slightly yellow cast. This was an early introduction before crosses occured with nitidissima sp.

KAGIROHI

Medium yellow, formal double form from Japan (c. jap. Silver Chalice x c. nitidissima) Medium, mid season bloom. Not cold hardy - Zones 8b, 9 outside.

GROWER NOTES:

Due to its c. nitidissima parentage it is not cold hardy. Also flower bud set is inconsistent, but when it does bloom it is an outstanding  true yellow.

MARY PHOEBE TAYLOR

Light rose pink. Very large peony form. Average open upright growth. Early to mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

This New Zealand introduction does well in our middle Georgia area. The bloom is usually simply a semi double but sometimes it will be peony in form. Stamens will turn from bright yellow to dark yellow/brown within 1 or 2 days of opening.

MINATO-NO-AKEBONO

Light pink toned deep pink. Minature single. Medium, upright, somewhat loose growth habit. Fragrant. Early to mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

I like this bloom. It draws one's eye with it's deep pink buds and simple bloom and it is one of the more fragrant hybrids.

NIGHT RIDER

Very dark, black red. Miniature to small, semi double. Slow, upright growth. Mid-late season.

GROWER NOTES:

Probably the darkest red bloom. Always draws interest. New growth is also a deep red, turning green as leaves mature.

OPTICAL ILLUSION

Yellow with pink overtones. Medium formal double with strap-like petals that can be arranged in a somewhat spiral pattern. Not cold hardy—Zones 8B, 9 outside

GROWER NOTES:

One of my favorites among the tropical yellow crosses. I have seen it with strap-like petals, and swirl pattern. In 2019 I showed it at 4 shows and it won its category (medium, protected) all 4 times, advancing to Best in Show in the Atlanta show.

PUNKIN

Rose pink outer petals shading to lighter pink at center. Small formal double with incurved petals. Vigorous growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

Interesting small bloom, often wins in its category. Leaves have a funny stretched look.

RASPBERRY FLAMBÉ

Rose color. Medium formal double. Average upright growth. Mid season bloom.

ROSE BOUQUET

Rose. Large rose form double. Spreading growth. Mid season.

GROWER NOTES:

I would say this outstanding bloom is a mid-late bloom as it was one of the last plants blooming this spring.

SENRITSU-KO

Light yellow edges toned pink. Small to medium formal double to rose form double. Moderate upright open growth. Mid season bloom. Not cold hardy - Zones 8b, 9 outside.

Blush pink edged coral pink. Small to medium formal double to rose form double. Average compact upright growth. Mid to late season bloom.

SPRING FESTIVAL

Pink fading to light pink in center. Miniature, rose form double. Narrow upright growth. Small narrow leaves. Mid-late season.

STRING OF PEARLS

SWEET JANE

Pale pink center shading to deeper pink on outer petals. Miniature, peony form to formal double. Vigorous, upright growth. Mid season.

GROWER NOTES:

This is my wife, Brenda’s, favorite bloom. It is a very petite miniature that wins a lot in shows.

TAYLOR’S PERFECTION

Light pink. Very large semidouble with occasional petaloids. Average open upright growth. Mid to late season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

One of the best late season bloomers. Heavy bud set often extend bloom season into April even here in mid-Ga. Will grow in full sun

TOM PERKINS

Rose red outer petals, neyron-rose mid petals and blossom pink inner petals. Large formal double with highly imbricated petals. Vigorous upright growth. Mid season bloom.

TULIP TIME

Light pink. Medium single of tulip form. Vigorous upright growth. Mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

Bloom looks like a tulip in flower, thus the name.

WENDZALEA

Glowing ruby red. Medium single form. Vigorous upright growth. Blooms twice yearly.

GROWER NOTES:

One of the first successful crosses of Camellia azalea and ‘Wendy’, a japonica, by the late Valdosta, GA hybridizer Hulyn Smith.
