GROWER NOTES:

Introduced in 1991 by hybridizer Marvin Jernigan and named for long time friend & local camellia enthusiast and ACS supporter. Dr Dan was a great help to me in my camellia endeavors. A fantastic bloom, but unfortunately it has proven so far to be difficult to root so plants are limited., Grafts well.

Introduced in 1964 from Nuccio's Nursery. Francie L has proved to be a very dependable outdoor retic and will grow well in Atlanta, Birmingham areas.

Red. Very large semi-double to peony form. Vigorous spreading open upright growth. Early to mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

This 1989 introduction from renowned hybridizer Walter Homeyer along with the variegated version has proved to be the undisputed champion among the retics when it comes to winning shows. Not only is the bloom great but so is the plant, growing well outdoors in zone 8.

Red and white. Very large semi-double to peony form. Vigorous spreading open upright growth. Early to mid season bloom.

GROWER NOTES:

Introduced in 1989 when Marvin Jernigan introduced the variegation causing virus into a regular Frank Houser he got from friend & fellow hybridizer Walter Homeyer. The popularity of the variegated version has exceeded that of the regular Frank Houser. This plant is a little slower getting started but it too does well outside.

This is an interesting bloom with its twisted peony form and unusual coloration. It is a strong grower in the greenhouse but I do not know how well it would do outside. Seedling of Curtain Call.

Very nice formal double that in our area grows and blooms outdoors quite well. I have a huge plant given to me by Marvin Jernigan growing outside by my deck. We also grow a variegated version as this picture indicates.

GROWER NOTES:

'Vince Dooley' was hybridized by Walter Homeyer and was named for University of Georgia legendary football coach, Vince Dooley. Coach Dooley has this namesake camellia growing in his garden in Athens, Ga.
